The Book For Me

“The B-I-B-L-E! Yes, that’s the book for me!” My girls love that song and it really sums things up for me right now. I just reached the halfway point in my Bible in 90 Days Challenge (you can read about the start of this adventure in this previous post) and I’m so happy to say that I’m right on track! This is truly only by God’s grace, because I certainly have a multitude of things vying for my attention every day, but He has strengthened my mind and soul through these last 45 days and I have been so very blessed by my time in His Word. I typically do my reading in the afternoon while the little ones nap, although some days it doesn’t happen and I end up reading in the evening after they are in bed. Morning Bible reading just does not work for me. I’ve tried that many times in the past but my mind takes some time to wake up and usually by the time that happens the girls are up and reading is impossible. {I know you morning people don’t understand this, but just ask my husband — He will verify that I hardly open my eyes until after my first cup of coffee is down the hatch!} So, I’ve found what works best and I’m sticking with it. Unfortunately, since the peaceful hours of my days are now filled with Scripture reading, blogging (amongst other things) has taken a backseat.
God continues to shower us with blessings, and one was particularly incredible recently. A kind letter of encouragement came in the mail from a relative, telling us how excited they are for our adoption and assuring us of their prayers for us along this journey. They enclosed an extremely generous check which went straight into our adoption fund, for the money we will have to pay upon receiving our referral. David and I were both in tears as we praised God for the love and selflessness of this precious family! Their gift carries such an eternal significance as it fulfills God’s command to care for the orphan, and what greater way than to help turn an orphan into a son (or daughter?)!
If you’re wondering about our adoption status, we are currently somewhere around number 16 in line for a referral. Things have been quite slow for the last couple of months and we’re hoping that soon things will pick up speed again and many families will be able to bring their children home forever! Our official estimated wait time also increased slightly, so we expect it may be several months yet before we get a referral. Adoption can be an incredible lesson in patience and I fear we’ve a lot of learning still to expect.
Waiting for His Coming,
Erin
